One of my favorite pastimes is diving into my favorite sports game and  building a franchise from the ground up. The opportunity to turn the worst team in the country into a juggernaut, selecting diamond-in-the-rough players and slowly but surely dominating the competition is always fun.

As games have continued to advance, the opportunity to insert your own designs has become a common feature. For me, it gives the added dimension of the team not only being terrible, but also something completely your own.

The branding for the BOOM began as an identity that I’d use in 2K, but when the College Football game came back after more than a decade, it was a chance to see how the assets I’d created could transfer over. What came of it was a pretty cool team. Sleek and bathed in a the bright reddish orange that I love.

The “J School BOOM” is a play on my own name, in combination with my partner’s background as a graduated from Columbia’s School of Journalism.

The logo has a dual functionality with the circular reverberations depicting a soundwaves projection and acting as the two O’s in the lockup.

J School’s uniforms are pretty straight forward, using materiality and the strengths of the striking orange to create something eye-catching.
